Do you travel?
Yes, I travel nationally for clients but most of my work is in and around Washington D.C.

What's your primary style -- traditional, candid, or posed?
Photojournalistic style.

What's your philosophy about shooting photographs?
Establishing a good relationship with clients by meeting with the bride and groom a few times during the planning stages and by attending the wedding rehearsal is key.

Do you shoot in color, black and white, or both?
Both.

How independent are you? Do you prefer that I describe exactly what I want, or would you rather have free rein to capture the festivities on film?
I can of course work independently but consultation with the client is essential and guarantees excellent results. A combination of both posed and candid/photojournalistic style coverage is what most couples like. To accommodate this, I work sequentially to capture each posed shot from the couple's list (approximately 20 minutes after the ceremony). Candid shots are made through the rest of the wedding with special attention to the bride and groom. Four weeks after your wedding you receive the proof prints and negatives.

Will Jennifer be the one who actually takes your wedding pictures?
I do all the photographic work, and bring along an assistant to carry equipment and assist with lighting.

Have you shot many photographs? Is your work digital or film based?
I have photographed over 250 photographs. I use both film and digital based imaging.

How many photographs will you shoot on our wedding weekend (or even on our wedding day)?
Just one wedding per weekend - yours.

Are you open to a list of must-take photos (pictures you definitely want shot)?
Absolutely.

How do you determine price? By the number and kind of prints you think I'll want, the hours you spend on our wedding, the developing time, or a combination of the above factors? How many rolls of film will be shot, and how many proofs and final prints will result? Are packages available? Can you get a price list?
* The price for full-day coverage at this time starts at $2150 for four hours of complete coverage.
* See my price list for additional information
* Within four weeks from your wedding day, you receive the proof prints and negatives to use in building your own album.

What kinds of cameras do you use?
For fast reliable coverage, I use both medium format and 35mm cameras. Bronicas as well as Canon EOS system 35mm cameras with various lenses and 550EX speedlite flashes with dry cell battery packs. Medium format equipment includes two Bronica cameras.

What kind of lighting and other equipment (such as tripods) do you use? Do you bring backup equipment in case of emergency?
I will use tripods, light stands and off-camera flashes in low light reception areas and for indoors and posed shots. I always have backup equipment on hand.

Do you develop your own film? How long do you keep negatives? Can we buy our negatives from Jennifer Hoak Photography?
For fast, reliable results, I use Pictage for all processing and printing. You receive all negatives with the 4x6 proofs within 4 weeks after your wedding.

I want a photographer that we can tolerate throughout our wedding day. I want to feel very comfortable around our photographer.
My casual, confident manner, good sense of humor, allow me to get the best possible poses from even the most tense situations. I always attend the rehearsal to meet both families and friends, which helps me establish rapport and get a more relaxed look from everyone on the wedding day.

Is the photographic work you share with us in our meeting all your own?
All the work I will share with you is mine.
